Congresswoman Chellie Pingree (D-Maine) issued the following statement regarding the oral arguments today at the U.S. Supreme Court in the case of Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization, challenging Mississippi's 15-week abortion ban:

"I am deeply concerned that the Supreme Court has signaled it would throw out 50 years of settled law to uphold Mississippi's abortion ban. This decision could end abortion access nationwide by giving the green light to anti-choice governors and legislators to enact similar draconian bans.

More than two months ago, the House passed the Women's Health Protection Act, which I proudly cosponsored, to codify Roe v. Wade and protect abortion access nationwide. The Senate must pass this crucial legislation--even if that means abolishing the filibuster to do so. We cannot and will not go back to the days when women weren't trusted to decide their own future."
